it's all about making friends that are LGBTQ+ but everyone has 1 thing in common ;). I feel the stone way about the first time I stumbled gay Kaboom in high school. The dialogue is hilarious, the performances are spot on, and its portrait of young adults as aimless dreamers with uninhibited sexual appetites is perfectly relatable.

It was such a big influence on me, this world of free sexuality. Do you have anything left for a potential second season? It goes to this whole other level. The thing gay that a lot of these millennial sex comedies like Girls or Insecure run out super quickly.

Creating and running a show is so much work. The subsequent reboot, That ‘90s Show — which was just as much a stoner comedy as the original series — had to acknowledge that LGBTQ+ people were becoming more visible in the ‘90s. Beau Mirchoff does such a fantastic job with the Ford character.

So I started thinking about this story and it started germinating. We wrote it, and it was exactly what I wanted the show to be, and if it was too weird or too crazy to get made, then fine. The stars aligned. Pride Month is upon us, a time to both celebrate gay culture and raise awareness around the injustices that continue to occur within the community.

In addition to making one of the most influential stoner comedies of all time with Smiley Facea lot of your filmography has gay rimjob marijuana. But Smiley Face is definitely a big influence.

I think his journey ends up being so much more emotional than I thought it was going to be. I also love how close he is with Uly. I think Beau and Avan did such a fantastic job fleshing out that relationship. Earlier, you said you put every possible idea you had into this show.

I just got creative carte blanche to do whatever I wanted. Bigotry against any element of the LGBTQA community is an instant ban. They really just speak to me in a very strong way. The LGBTQIA+ community has always had a special relationship with cannabis, and in honor of Pride Month, we’d like to highlight the most famous LGBTQIA+ stoners of all time, and how they’ve contributed to the cannabis community.

You also tackle the dark side of sex, too. Sexual fluidity is a requirement. I always wanted to make a sort of surreal, Twin Peaks -y show. The reboot series featured the character of Ozzie Takada (Reyn Doi), the gang’s sassy gay friend.

Your vision of modern-day millennial life is so spot-on, particularly with regard to sexual fluidity. Bathed in rich, highly saturated colors, Now Apocalypse is exactly what you would expect from a millennial sex comedy by Gregg Araki. This group is welcome and safe for ALL LGBTQA+.

Transphobia is an instant ban. All are welcome, hate is not. Sure, we're primarily targeted to gay men, but being cis gay male does not make you better than anyone. See a recent post on Tumblr from @jocoselyjay about gay stoners. That was one of the things I noticed the most when I saw all the episodes put together.

The setup of the show really means that the possibilities are kind of wide open. Around the same time, I met Karley Sciortino and we really hit it off. r/StonerGays: this community is stone being gay and a stoner! Whether we like.
